Throughout history the South Platte River and Plum Creek have flooded.  As the area developed, the damage became more costly.  In 1965, a storm in Plum Creek caused the last major flood of the South Platte River through Denver.  Twenty one people died, 10,000 people were evacuated and over $365 million in damages resulted.  The flood provided the impetus for construction of Chatfield Dam and creation of the reservoir so many enjoy today. Click here to see video and slide show of the flood and a slide show of how the reservoir is used today.  The Authority would like to thank the City of Littleton, the Littleton Museum and Englewood Public library for use of the video and photos.
