Annual Reports

Water Quality Updates & Data

  • The linked files contain water quality data from the Swim Beach of Chatfield Reservoir at Chatfield State Park, collected by Colorado State Parks Rangers.  The numbers are measured as the number of E. coli organisms per 100 milliliter (ml) sample.  The maximum contaminant level allowed by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is 235 organisms of E. coli per 100 ml sample.  In 2008, the Swim Beach was never closed because of high E. coli levels and no calls were received about possible illnesses contracted at the reservoir.  Sources of E. coli include birds and people.  Parks staff works diligently to remove goose fecal matter from the swim beach as a courtesy to the public.  The high flushing of runoff water through the reservoir in 2008 may have significantly contributed to the low E. coli measurements from the Swim Beach. For more information about water quality at the swim beach, please contact Park Ranger Crystal Dreiling at 303-791-7275, ext. 114
